Poi is the staple of the Polynesian Islands, it is pounded taro root, like smooth glue, then when the fresh bags don't sell, you get to buy the sour stuff cheaper.

why won't witnesses use tv or radio?
by moomanchu inthe radio was used extensively in the 1920's and 1930's.
by 1933 the society was using 403 radio stations to broadcast bible lectures.
later, the use of the radio was largely replaced by increased house-to-house visits by witnesses with portable phonographs and recorded bible talks.

I think because they know they will never hold up to public scrutiny. They would be forced to address issues they would rather keep total control over like children dieing for lack of blood and false date setting to name a few.
Public or network media would mean they would have to play fair and look normal, something the GB can't do.

After being a JW, do you experience panic when someone expresses disapproval
by Elsewhere inhaving grown up in the wts i was always taught that there are very serious consequences that result when those in authority do not approve of you.. q: what happens when you break a wt rule?.
a: very quick and brutal punishment in the form of shunning and ostracism.
there is no middle ground... you either get no punishment or extremely severe punishment.. having grown up knowing only those two possible outcomes i find that i tend to become panicked when friends or authority figures express disapproval.

I used to. I was really messed up. I have come a long way. I remember how I felt, I felt like I had to have resolution or acceptance. Not anymore but it was bad in the past.
I think what changed in me was resolution with the WT, then the time I spent alone getting to know who I really was. Some of us never had a chnace to get to know who we really are. We are JWs for goodnes sakes! uuhhhhg..
Once I went through knowing who I was, I learned to love and appreciate myself. Then when somebody disapproved, who cares. To thine own self be true. It took me years to understand that. From there we learn to love and appreciate all others that are different from us. Thus an end to approval disapproval issues, or a need to validate ourselves to others.

Does anyone else feel like their damaged goods?
by MsMcDucket ini feel like this all the time.
i have a husband that loves me, but i still feel like if i ever were on the singles market that i would not be a "good catch".
my health problems and most of all being a former jehovah's witness makes me feel less than perfect.. i'm having a pity party.
-
Apostate Kate
Me Ducket I fully understand that feeling.
It passed but every once in awhile it will sneak up on me.
I think part of it was having such a radically different past social experience than most around us. Well for me that seemed to be part of it. It made me feel separated from the world I was in.
We are a very small minority in society. Not many have ever experienced surviving the WT. Plus those that have often end up having serious problems like my two childhood girlfriends that are gone now. In fact all the JW kids I grew up with self destructed in one way or another. That also gives us a feeling of detachment. We are social creatures without a history.
Be assured this feeling too will pass. It makes us wiser, softer, more sympathetic to other's suffering. I am also blessed to have loving husband now, but sometimes I think he can only try to understand who this odd lady next to him is.
My feelings come not only from the WT but having been born with a genetic disease that I have to have regular medical treatments for. Talk about feeling like damaged goods!
I hope you feel better soon. Take good care of yourself while you having these feelings. The strongest people in the history of mankind are those that have emerged from adversity. I'm sure they felt some of the same things we have. Wishing you a great summer~Kate

Crisis of Conscience quotes and publications needed
by Calliope inso i've basically apostasized to a wit-friend who thinks i'm spiritually lost (i've been deliberately fading for nearly a year).
she has invited me to share with her my questions and doubts (i didn't confirm that my questions had already been answered or that all my doubts have been dispelled) in attempt to provide me with evidence.
the only one i have shared thus far is about 607bce.

I find the explanation for 607 starting on page 175 of the newest renovation of C of C.
Have you printed off the UN statement? That has been a great place to start for me anyways. I remember as a child being denied the opportunity to be a Brownie Scout and be in after school clubs, to fin out they were an NGO had an impact on me even though I was already out. It just showed me how wicked the whole organization is.

English, Spanish, dog and horse and some cat. I started learning Japanese and could say enough to keep a Japanese tourist on a horse in the Maui rain forrest from being rolled over in the pineapple fields. ..The only word I remember right now is ABONAI ABONAI!! (sp?) Which means danger danger ...then I would tell them what to do which I have now forgotten.
Sometimes I watch Spanish soap operas to brush up but the women are always either bitchy or crying, to much estrogen for this apostate.

the Power of Prayer?
by darcy ini was reading through the 'why i hate god' thread', and reflecting on my own experience with prayer.
i think the one most... relieving?
point was when i realized that i when i prayed i wasn't really trying to talk to jehovah, but i was talking myself through my own life.

Apostate Kate
I think the above post really lays things out as they are. What bothers me about those who believe prayer works is that they cannot seem to accept any other reason a situation has changed for them
Well, this would be supposing that all believers are of lower intelligence, stupid, delusional and psychotic full of all types of abberant abnormal psychology.
The Bible is deeper than most people have ever delved into it. Yet they are full of condemnation for it and those who believe.
Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
John 6:37 All those who the Father gives me will come to me. Him who comes to me I will in no way throw out.
John 14:18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
Joh 14:18
Verse 18. Comfortless. Greek, orphans. Jesus here addresses them as children, Joh 13:33. He says that he would show them the kindness of a parent, and, though he was going away, he would
provide for their future welfare. And even while he was absent, yet they would sustain to him still the relation of children. Though he was to die, yet he would live again; though absent in body, yet he would be present with them by his Spirit; though he was to go away to heaven, yet he would return again to them. See Joh 14:3.{1} "comfortless" or, "orphans"
{r} "I will come to you" Joh 14:3,28.BARNESWhen one has a personal relationship with Jesus, one knows, without a doubt. That person will be willing to face hungry lions in the Roman arenas, face death on a Roman cross, face beatings and stonings for Him, yet may also be so weak that they would deny ever knowing him as did Peter. We are not perfect but forgiven.

Did Jesus put him self in the background?';;
by architect in.
we all know that wtbs does not put a lot of emphasis on jesus, yet when needed highlight his example and the importance of his name despite all the scriptural reference about how jehovah made him important, superior and have alot of authority, yet when you read his life course he took all emphasis off himself and put it on his father.. with that being said, the way the wtbs is putting him in the background so to speak, isnt this the way jesus would want?

imho...on a personal note, I wanted to know what my relatinship with Jesus was. It was non existance while and for awhile after the dubs.
While Jesus was here, He knew all things, had power over death (Lazarus), had the power to forgive, knew our thoughts, and had the power to save. Believers had intimate personal friendships and honor for Jesus. John 10:38 But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.John 14:1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
1 Timothy 1:16 However, for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first, Jesus Christ might display all his patience, for an example of those who were going to believe in him for eternal life.
After Jesus died and rose from the dead people had personal relationships with him; John 20:15 Jesus said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping? Who are you looking for?" She, supposing him to be the gardener, said to him, "Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away."John 20:19 When therefore it was evening, on that day, the first day of the week, and when the doors were locked where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, "Peace be to you."
After Jesus rose to heaven people had personal relationships with him; Acts 9:4-5 He fell on the earth, and heard a voice saying to him, "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?" He said, "Who are you, Lord?" The Lord said, "I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.
Then Jesus made this promise;John 14:18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
We can debate until the end of time the Deity of Christ, but if one believes the Bible as do I, one will find that having a personal relationship with Jesus is necessary to a relationship with the Father.
